Health Department Looks Into Bedbug Claims At Charlotte Hotel

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Thank you for participating in our survey. Have you ever had bedbugs? Have you ever had bedbugs? Yes. No, but I know people who have. No, and I don't know anyone who has.

A traveler said she checked out of her west Charlotte hotel within an hour of checking in because she saw what she thinks were bedbugs.

"I picked a room I thought was fairly nice, brought my stuff up, sat down and was working on my computer, then I look over and I see something crawling," Kymber Leigh Means said.

Means said she picked up four of the insects and put them in a container so that she could show hotel management and demand a refund. Means also called the Mecklenburg County Health Department.

A manager at the hotel denied the presence of bedbugs and said he didn't know about Means' claim.

Eyewitness News is not naming the hotel since the Health Department has not yet investigated Means' claim.

The department's Environmental Health Division released a list of nine hotels and motels where bedbugs have been found since the beginning of the year. Officials said hotels and motels generally do a good job of treating infestations.
