GASTONIA, N.C.,None — City leaders in Gastonia want to know what residents think of charging for trash pickup.
Currently, the cost of garbage collection and recycling is wrapped into the property tax rate. If the new system passes, homeowners would pay $11.25 per month to have garbage emptied.
Recycling would be free and emptied every two weeks, under the proposal.
For residents who want to voice opinions and learn more about the "Pay As You Throw" system, the city council has planned a public hearing next Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Gaston County Courthouse.
