CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — WSOC-TV has some sad news to pass along. We have lost a former member of our family here at Channel 9.
Eyewitness News reporter Ken Ward passed away early Wednesday morning.
Ken had been a reporter here since January 2011. He worked the daybreak shift and reported in the mornings on Channel 9 and TV64.
His last day on our air was Dec. 30. Ken was heading to Tampa, Fla., where he was going to be a reporter at the ABC affiliate.
According to a short bio Ken wrote for wsoctv.com, he actually began his career in journalism as a teacher. For several years, he taught television and radio at Ossining High School in New York.
From there, he branched out into the world of radio news working as an on-air reporter and then moved on to television.
Ken graduated from Hampton University and The College of New Rochelle with degrees in Journalism and Communications.
He leaves behind a wife and son. Ken was 44 years old.
