Former Channel 9 meteorologist Ray Boylan honored

CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Family and friends remembered former Channel 9 meteorologist Ray Boylan on Thursday.

Boylan led Channel 9's coverage when Hurricane Hugo hit Charlotte 22 years ago Thursday.

Former Channel 9 anchors stood together to remember Boylan and his contributions to the city.

"He had such a great attitude, and he loved people," said former Channel 9 anchor Debi Faubion. "He loved weather, but he loved people as well and always made everyone laugh."

"Everybody in Charlotte remembers Ray Boylan," said former Channel 9 anchor Bill Walker. "When you think about Hurricane Hugo, Ray just held our hand through the horrendous experience."

"There was such empathy with Ray, and the people he would talk to every night," said former Channel 9 sports anchor Harold Johnson. "And when he did his forecast, it was geared to everyone. You could understand it."

Boylan died last year.

Friends planted a tree and setup a memorial plaque in Boylan's honor on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway off of Kings Drive.
