Mountain snow: Mountain snow will start falling later Monday morning and will last off-and-on most of the week.

Advisories: A winter weather advisory is in place through Monday night and up to 3 inches of snow will be seen in spots in the High Country.
The rain that will arrive through Monday evening may mix with some sleet or snow briefly, but no accumulations are expected closer to the metro. Temperatures will be in the upper 20s in and around Charlotte and in the mountains, temperatures will be in the teens with wind chills near 0 degrees.

Winter chill: The main story this week will be the winter chill. High temperatures will drop into the lower 40s Tuesday and will not get out of the 30s by Wednesday. Overnight temps will fall into the teens by Thursday morning and another wave of cold air will arrive heading into the weekend.

More snow headed to western North Carolina
More snow is probably headed to the mountains of western North Carolina this week.

The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings, winter storm watches and winter weather advisories for various parts of the mountains later this week.
In the Waynesville area, up to 5 inches of snow is expected through Thursday morning. Up to 4 inches of snow is expected around Banner Elk. Up to 3 inches of snow is possible around Cashiers.
Up to 3 inches of snow could fall around Boone. More snow is expected later in the week.
Up to 4 inches of snow could fall in the extreme western part of the state around Murphy.
Watauga and Avery County Schools closed Monday and Ashe County Schools dismissed early.
