Flea Market Destroyed By Fire Reopens Friday

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C.,None — A Rowan County business is celebrating the moment it's been anticipating for nearly a year.

Last September, a fire destroyed the 25-year-old Webb Flea Market near Salisbury and hundreds of vendors lost everything in the fire. They are hoping the economy will not discourage people from showing up on the flea market's grand reopening.

"With the economy like it is, it's just uncertain. None of us know. We are all hoping it really is a big successful thing, but nobody knows for sure," said one vendor.

The new facility has rebuilt 10 buildings and replaced the old wooden framework with new metal buildings.

Shortly after the fire, vendors began selling items out of their cars and makeshift tents, but Friday is the first day they can work out of the new buildings.

The cause of the fire that destroyed the flea market was never determined.
