MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A Mooresville business that creates life-changing smiles is trying to do the same for children for Christmas.
Eyewitness News anchor Stephanie Maxwell learned about their Christmas tree that encourages the spirit of giving.
This is the first year Saks Orthodontics has a Giving Tree adorned with gift cards that gives an opportunity for patients and anyone else to help children across North Carolina.
"They bring the gift card in and exchange it for a keepsake ornament to take home to remind them of a smile they helped create somewhere," said Shana Mullis, with Saks Orthodontics.
Lindsay Oakes, 10, bought a Target gift that will go to Children's Hope Alliance, which helps abused and neglected children all over the state.
"I brought a gift card so I could participate in the Giving Tree, because I love to give," she said.
The agency said the tree will help many of the 3,500 children it serves.
"There's Old Navy, there's Target," said Toni Ann Pfieffer, with Children's Hope Alliance. "It's everything on there. So it's amazing, absolutely amazing. And we're just so honored to have this happen for our kids."
The idea behind the tree is the spirit of giving.
"If we can help other people out in this world to have those smiles, that would only be fitting for the season," Dr. Stepehen Saks said.
Saks Orthodontics is collecting gift cards for the giving tree from now until Dec. 18.
