CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Discovery Place in Charlotte is ranked as the most visited museum and historic attraction in the region and seventh overall in North Carolina, according to annual survey released by Carolina Publishing Associates.
Discovery Place was visited by 530,423 guests in 2010 which includes visitation to Discovery Place, Charlotte Nature Museum and Discovery Place KIDS-Huntersville, which opened in October 2010.
The Top 30 North Carolina museums and historic attractions survey is conducted each year by Carolina Publishing Associates of Matthews, publishers of the annual Carolina Heritage Guide, Carolina Field Trips Magazine, The African American Heritage and Visitor's Guide and the Carolina Sports Travel Guide.
The year was highlighted by the grand opening of Discovery Place after an 18-month, $31.6 million renovation which filled the Museum with all-new exhibitions, as well as the opening of Discovery Place KIDS-Huntersville, the only children's museum in the greater Charlotte region offering interactive, learning-based play opportunities for young children.
