Here is some advice from our Action 9 team on unwanted mail.

Stop Pre-Screened Credit/Insurance Offers
The FTC recommends two different options:
- To opt out for five year call toll free 1-888-5-OPT-OUT or click here. This hotline is operated by the major consumer reporting companies.
- To opt out forever, click here to start the permanent opt-out process. You will also need to print, sign and return the permanent opt-out election form.
It's Not Just the Offers
You can request to stop receiving other direct mail.
- Register with the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) Mail Preference Service.
- Pick which mail you do and don't want to get.
- Remember not all businesses that use direct mail are registered with the DMA, so it won't stop everything.
Stop the Emails Too
The DMA has an Email Preference Service too. (eMPS)
To stop getting unsolicited emails from DMA members, click here.
- Registration is free.
- Usually takes a few months to begin.
- Lasts for six years.
Don't Call Me Either
Register your phone number on the National 'Do Not Call' List which is managed by the Federal Trade Commission. Once you register, telemarketers covered by the National Do Not Call registry have 31 days to stop calling you. Calls that are from or made on behalf of political organizations, charities and telephone surveyors will still be permitted.
