HICKORY, N.C. — A Hickory man signed up for a phone deal but then had to fight to get it.
Joseph Mayberry went with a Verizon deal to buy one phone and get one free.
The offer cost Mayberry just under $700, he said.
He said Verizon put that money toward the second phone, which was supposed to be free. He still owed money for the first.
"Since I somehow paid for a free phone, they said I voided the contract and, just basically, got to pay for two phones now full price," he said.
He said he called the company four weeks in a row.
"I would call someone. I would go through the long story of what happened. I would get the top supervisor level. I've got emails saying I would be credited back and a phone call would follow. (I) never got the phone call."
He emailed Action 9.
"I emailed you and the next day, you wanted to move forward with it. Then I felt very good about it," he told Action 9.
Verizon didn't say what the problem was, but Action 9 got it sorted out.
"If you find someone that gives you good customer service, that's who you need to do business with," Mayberry said.
He's relieved about the money.
Just make sure you keep good records like Mayberry did. Action 9 may not have been able to get him results without the records. Don't be afraid to record your calls with the company as proof.
