CMS votes to raise district’s minimum wage to $20 an hour

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

CHARLOTTE — On Tuesday, leaders with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools unanimously voted to raise the district’s minimum wage to $20 an hour.

The findings of a compensation study were presented to the school board earlier this month.

The proposal suggests implementing new salary schedules for 390 classified job titles across nine pay grades.

Certified employees – such as teachers – were not included in the study.

The decision was made on Tuesday to implement phase one of the new salary schedules.

Nearly 3,900 CMS employees earn less than $20 an hour – but not all would see a raise during phase one.

Phase one would cost $25.6 million.
