CHARLOTTE — The 2025 NFL draft will be held in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Detroit will host it in 2024.
Charlotte sports leaders have also been doing their research to find out what it would take to host it.
Last week, top executives and board members from the Charlotte Sports Foundation traveled to the draft in Kansas City. According to CSF’s president, Danny Morrison, they were there to get a closer a look at the logistics and planning involved in hosting the draft.
Charlotte is not new to hosting big events. In years past, we’ve been the site of the Republican National Convention, the Democratic National Convention, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association tournament, the NBA All-Star weekend, the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, the Presidents Cup, the Duke’s Mayo Bowl and the Duke’s Mayo Classic -- among other events.
Morrison said hosting the NFL Draft is a community-led effort, but in cities that have previously hosted it, a sports commission has been the organizer. The Charlotte Sports Foundation would work in a similar way if Charlotte were to host the draft.
