The Charlotte Independence won their ticket to a postseason appearance for the third year in a row, their first time in the USL League One.
The Jacks defeated their in-state rival, North Carolina FC, by scoring five goals at American Legion Memorial Stadium on Saturday and securing their spot as the #6 seed.
Head Coach Mike Jeffries praised his team for continuing their journey to the postseason and the effort the team put into the game until the last second.
“We showed up and played well,” Jeffries said. “I’m proud of the guys for coming out with good intensity and good concentration. They stepped up their game for sure. It’s nice to get a win, get in the playoffs and give ourselves a chance.”
Charlotte will face South Georgia Tormenta FC in the quarterfinal match on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. (ET).
