Update 12:50 p.m. EDT Nov. 1: Police said more than 100 people were at a party Thursday night in Orinda when shots rang out around 11 p.m., leaving four people dead and several others injured.

Officials with the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office said it remained unclear Friday morning how many people were injured, as some victims went to hospitals on their own.

Thursday night's deadly shooting happened at a home that had been rented through Airbnb, according to multiple reports. The home's owner, Michael Wang, 58, told the San Francisco Chronicle a woman had rented the house for what she claimed was going to be a family reunion.

"We realized (there were more people) when we got a call from the neighbors," Wang told the Chronicle. "We sent a message to the lady. My wife sent her messages to tell her that the house should only have a maximum of 12 people and no party allowed. They sent a message that we only have 12 people. But we have a Ring, a camera at the door, and we saw there were more people than that. We could not count, but it looked like more than that."

In a statement obtained by KRON, a spokesperson for Airbnb said the company has taken action to block the person who rented the home from booking another house on its platform.

"We are horrified by this tragedy and are in close communication with Chief David Cook of Orinda Police to offer our support with his investigation into who committed this senseless violence," the statement said.

"Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the victims of this abhorrent act as well as the neighbors of the home."
