CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will use the Thanksgiving break to remove asbestos from one elementary school.
The district said it's removing 3,600 square feet of ceiling tiles at Nations Ford Elementary this week that have asbestos.
CMS calls it a "preventative measure."
"It's not a hazard today," Environmental Health and Safety Director Brian Kasher said, "but there's a potential for hazard in the future. That's what we're eliminating."
Parents told Eyewitness New they were not told about the asbestos removal.
CMS said a message to parents went out late Monday afternoon.
