Action 9: Study shows 1 out of every 20 Charlotte homes are sold through iBuying

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Many people don’t feel like selling their homes the traditional way. They’re turning to companies like Opendoor, Offerpad, RedfinNow and Zillow.

It’s called iBuying -- for instant buying -- and Action 9 found a new study that says one out of every 20 homes in Charlotte is sold that way, making Charlotte the third highest in the country (tied with Atlanta). Raleigh is number one.

Redfin did the study. It also says, “In 9 of the 21 largest iBuying metros, iBuyers sold their inventory faster than a typical home, with the largest margins in Charlotte and Durham (26 days faster), Tucson (25) and Raleigh (21).”

Beth Stolarick was selling her home, but it fell through right at the end.

“It was kind of frustrating to have taken it that far and then for the deal not to go through,” Stolarick said. “We actually put it back on the market for probably another 45 days or so, but nothing came through at that point then.”

So she went a different route: Zillow.

“When I looked at the convenience and that I could set the date, that I could go find another place to live, that I can plan my move, it was worth it to me to just be done with it and walk away and knowing that it was going to be final,” Stolarick told Action 9′s Jason Stoogenke.

Plus, Zillow paid her close to what she expected to get on her own.

“I walked away and everything was exactly as it said they were from the very beginning,” Stolarick said. “You don’t have to worry about the showings. You don’t have to worry about the inspection and, after the inspection, how much more are they going to try to knock off the price or extending, extending, extending and then knocking the price [down].”

Trent Corbin runs The Redbud Group, which does all of Zillow’s buying and selling in the Charlotte area.

“Generally, what we see across the country is Zillow is getting a request for an offer about once every two minutes,” Corbin said. “That’s a national number, but we’re a part of that statistic.”

You may want one of these companies to come give you an offer. You have nothing to lose. Just make sure it doesn’t obligate you to anything.
