Action 9: Man unhappy with gutter guards installation

None — Bill Gronin had gutter guards installed to keep leaves out of his gutters, but he now says the guards were installed incorrectly and even light rain runs over his gutters onto his deck.

"Above the gutter, you can see the gutter guard is hanging over the gutter," Gronin said.

Gronin paid Home-Tek Handyman of Hickory $2,000 to install the gutter guards without checking them out with the BBB.

Now, he said, he can't get the contractor back to his house.

"I called them five or six times," Gronin said. "They just refuse to come. Every time, they say there's no issue."

If Gronin had checked out Home-Tek Handyman with the BBB, he may never have hired them. That's because they have an F rating with 33 complaints. Two are unresolved and six are unanswered.

Action 9 paid a surprise visit to Home-Tek Handyman's Hickory location, but was told the owner, Chris Robinson, wasn't in.

Later, Robinson called back to say he sent someone to check on Gronin's gutter guards and found nothing wrong. But he said he would take another look.

When Action 9 asked him about his F rating with the BBB, Robinson said he didn't care because "not everyone bothers to looks at BBB ratings."

Two weeks later, Action 9 checked back with Gronin, and he said he hadn't heard from anyone at Home-Tek Handyman.

"Apparently, a company that does not respond to their customers -- I don't see why they should be in business," Gronin said.
