CHARLOTTE, NC — Mecklenburg County health inspectors have given James Martin Middle School on the north side of Charlotte poor marks for cleanliness.
In an inspection this week, the school got a 74 out of 100. Anything below 70 is considered failing.
They found a rusty, leaking pipe – a repeat violation – a concrete wall “degraded by what appears to be water damage,” heavy dust on vents – also a repeat violation – and “a heavy accumulation of ants in Room 701.”

Over the last 8 months, health inspectors have also given West Mecklenburg High School and Cochrane Collegiate Academy “C” grades, but not as low at James Martin.
Administrators at the school declined to comment on the inspection Wednesday.
A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools spokesperson told us they’d get back to us.
While the health department does have the authority to close restaurants, they do not have that same authority with schools.
