GLADE VALLEY, N.C. — A 12-year-old Wilmington girl has died in a zip line accident at a YMCA camp in northwestern North Carolina.
Authorities tell media outlets that the accident happened Thursday at Camp Cheerio in Glade Valley in Alleghany County.
Authorities identified the girl as 12-year-old Bonnie Sanders Burney.
Camp CEO David Ozmore says the zip line has been in operation for two years. Ozmore said it works on dual lines and there has never been a problem before. He says it appears the lines may have tangled.
He says the child was staying at the camp for a week and had been coming there for several years.
