From ‘Star Wars' to hip-hop, Summer Pops series heats up June

The Charlotte Symphony Summer Pops season has arrived!

A Charlotte tradition since 1983, this year the series will include a couple of uptown in-theater experiences in addition to performances at Symphony Park.

Highlights include music from “Star Wars” to Broadway favorites to a performance with the Fly Dance Company, plus a special patriotic concert with fireworks just in time for July Fourth.

Here’s the schedule:

Symphony Park performances

June 16 - "Music of 'Star Wars'" and more

June 23 - "Best of Broadway"

July 3 - "Celebrate America"

Music begins at 8:15 p.m.

Tickets for adults range from $14-$20, and children 12 and under are admitted free.

Uptown performances

June 21 - "Breaking Classical with the Gentlemen of Hip-Hop" (Belk Theater)

June 28 - "Video Games Live!" (Belk Theater)

Music begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets start at $19.

June 29 - Village Park in Kannapolis (7 p.m.)

June 30 - Belle Johnston Park in Pineville (7 p.m.)
