Race fans can see where the late Dale Earnhardt, one of the most influential drivers in NASCAR, lived and worked on a self-guided tour of the Dale Trail.
First, you’ll need to pick up a collectible brochure and map at the Cabarrus County Visitor Center (10099 Weddington Road Ext., Suite 102). The map will guide you through points of interest that were all significant to the racing legend.
From there, you can drive the roads Earnhardt sped down as a teenager and see Car Town, the neighborhood where the famous NASCAR driver grew up.
A major stop on the trail is Dale Earnhardt Plaza in downtown Kannapolis. You can’t miss the centerpiece, a 9 ft., 900 lbs. bronze statue of Dale!
You can also catch a rare glimpse of NASCAR history at Curb Motorsports Museum where the car Earnhardt drove in 1980 in his first Winston Cup Championship is on display.
The Dale Trail also takes you down N.C. State Highway #3, a road named in Dale’s honor, to Dale Earnhardt Inc. You can tour the showroom and see its ever-changing Dale Earnhardt exhibits and check out the gift shop.
