The Charlotte Fire Department swore in Kevin Miller as the new fire marshal.
Miller is a graduate of Norfolk State University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications.
After serving as a firefighter for the New York City Fire Department for 15 years, Miller joined the Charlotte Fire Department as a fire inspector in 2006.
Miller was then promoted to senior inspector, supervising nine field inspectors, including the Hazardous Material Inspection team. He has served as the chief fire inspector since 2017.
“Miller’s education, experience and all the things he has done for the Charlotte Fire Department has set him on the path of where he is today, and we are proud that he is going to be our new fire marshal,” said Reginald T. Johnson, chief of the Charlotte Fire Department.
Miller took the oath with his wife Nicole by his side.
It was a clearly emotional ceremony for Miller, who fought back tears during his speech.
Miller will take charge of his new office effective May 1.
Miller has three children, Elijah, Jeremiah and Emmanuel.
