The Mayor’s Mentoring Alliance will host a webinar dance mingle from 6-7 p.m. Thursday to discuss how young people can greatly benefit from social connection and engagement with caring adults and peers during times of crisis.
The session will feature team members from Movimiento Dance Academy, which specializes in Salsa On2, Bachata and Samba in Charlotte.
Children across the country are acclimating to the constant changes in daily life caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and it may trigger trauma for young people impacted by the virus or by the news surrounding the pandemic.
The virtual session will offer mentors and mentees another way to connect.
Now more than ever, seasoned mentors’ recommendations are to be intentional about preserving and continuing the relationship, and letting your mentee know that you are in this together and here to help.
Mentors are encouraged to be communicative because healthy and supportive relationships are crucial during this time.
Also, find ways to pass along information to let mentees know that you care and value the relationship, but that health and safety are the primary focuses at this time.
The event is free, but registration is required.
