Connecting Through Crisis examines how Charlotte mentoring thrives through COVID-19

The Mayor’s Mentoring Alliance is hosting a webinar discussion on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. to discuss how during times of crisis, young people can greatly benefit from social connection and engagement with caring adults and peers.

Connecting Through Crisis: Mentoring During COVID-19 will have a panel of leaders from local mentoring organizations who will share their strategies on how they continue to support the people they mentor while practicing social distancing due to COVID-19.

Children across the country are acclimating to the constant changes in daily life caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and it may trigger trauma for young people impacted by the virus or by the news surrounding the pandemic.

Seasoned mentors will share different tools to show mentees support.

Some of the recommendations are to be intentional about preserving and continuity in the relationship and letting mentees know that you are in this together and here to help.

Mentors are encouraged to be communicative because healthy and supportive relationships are crucial during this time.

Also, find ways to pass along information to let mentees know that you care and value the relationship, but that health and safety are the primary focuses at this time.

The event is free, but registration is required. Following registration, you will receive a separate email with the meeting details to join the Zoom call.
