Charlotte group building community along with CMPD serves at Salvation Army

A group founded after the Charlotte protests combined forces with CMPD and served Thanksgiving dinner at the Salvation Army Center of Hope Shelter for Women and Children.

Greg Jackson, Charlotte Community Coalition founder, said "Our goal is to build community awareness and change the morale of the city through events, education, music and food."

Part of the coalition's goal is to be engaged with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, so Jackson invited officers to help serve the evening meal.  "We want to build trust and wellness in the community.  CMPD has to be with us every step of the way.  Seeing is believing, and my community has to see them help."  Jackson said.

The food, provided by the coalition's members and volunteers, included all the traditional thanksgiving food.  One volunteer said, "I have never seen so many smiles."  Over 300 women and children were served.
