The 22nd annual Speed Street festivities kick off Thursday afternoon, running through the first half of the holiday weekend.
Conditions will stay muggy and very warm over the next few days in Uptown, with highs well into the 80s.
Rain gear may be necessary throughout the event, with isolated showers possible each day.
Storms that develop will be capable of producing very heavy rain, breezy conditions, thunder and lightning.
Speed Street runs from noon until 11 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Many roads will remain closed in the Uptown area until Sunday.

For those heading to the racing activities at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, rain gear will also be necessary.
Similar to Speed Street, isolated showers will be possible Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Rain chances increase for Sunday, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
Periods of very heavy rain, wind, thunder and lightning will be possible throughout the day.
