FRIDAY: Showers pushed into the Charlotte area Friday.
The severe weather risk appears low, but there may be some lightning and gusty winds as the rain arrives.
The humidity returned, which caused the scattered downpours across the area. Highs will warm into the mid-to-upper 80s but the heat index will make it feel like the low 90s.
Storm chances linger for the weekend, but we’re not expecting a washout. Wet weather will pop up mainly later in the afternoon and evening, with heavy rain and lightning being the two main threats.
Highs will warm close to 90 degrees but the humidity will make it feel closer to the mid-90s.

PGA CHAMPIONSHIP WEATHER: The wet weather forecast for the week in Charlotte wasn't making conditions any better for the PGA Championship at the Quail Hollow Country Club.
Under PGA rules, damp conditions could suspend play if players can’t get good teeing ground.
[SPECIAL SECTION: 2017 PGA Championship]
Throughout the week, there will be at least a 40 percent chance of rain every day and the high temperatures will range from the low to high 80s.
A front that will stall across the area is bringing the threat for storms each day.

Overall, storms this week could contain heavy rain, frequent lightning and damaging wind gusts. Unfortunately, this doesn't bode well for the PGA Championship in town.
We aren’t expecting the week to be a washout, and with the best chance for storms coming in the afternoon, those with earlier tee times might be OK.
