HOUSTON — Team officials closed the Houston Texans team facility for deep cleaning Wednesday after a player tested positive for COVID-19, according to officials.
The Texans learned late Tuesday night that a player, identified by the Houston Chronicle as second-year offensive guard Max Scharping, tested positive for the viral infection.
“In accordance with NFL protocols, the player immediately self-isolated and our Infection Control Officer and other members of the Infection Response Team began working with the NFL to perform contact tracing,” the Texans said in a statement.

“We are in close consultation with the NFL, as well as our team of independent doctors and specialists, and will follow their guidance regarding our scheduled bye week operations. The health and safety of our team, as well as our entire staff, are of highest priority.”

The Texans are on a bye week following a 35-20 loss Sunday to the Green Bay Packers, USA Today reported.
Tuesday’s positive test is the first for the Texans since the start of their training camp, according to ESPN.
