Memorial growing for teen killed in crash before prom

FALL RIVER, Mass. — A memorial is growing for the Fall River teen killed on her way to prom Friday night.

"She was just so enthusiastic, loved life, loved experiences and just constantly wanted to share it,” said Boys and Girls Club Executive Director Peter McCarthy.

Flowers are being placed outside of the local Boys and Girls club where 18-year-old Hannah Raposo was a longtime member. Several people came by to pay their respects to the Durfee High senior.

Raposo was killed in a rollover crash on Route 24 Friday evening on her way to her senior prom at Whites of Westport. News spread quickly; it wasn’t long before McCarthy got word.

“It's absolutely devastating for everybody here,” said McCarthy.

She was a member of the club for the past 11 years. Two weeks ago she was honored as their "Youth of the Year."

"She was voted outstanding youth of this boys and girls club so if 2,600 kids a year join, there are 800 high school kids, she was number one,” said McCarthy.

Raposo actively volunteered at the club and would counsel the younger kids.

"She was a good friend,” said 6-year-old Tyler Perry.

Tyler took news of Raposo's death hard. He spent a lot of time with her at the club.

"We played on the playground, me and her played tag, hide and go seek,” he said.

Raposo was in the driver's seat Friday night, McCarthy said. He was told she wasn't wearing her seat belt because she didn't want to wrinkle her prom dress, something he said is completely out of character for her.

Raposo's 18-year-old passenger is still hospitalized in stable condition.
