GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A Florida police officer took it upon himself to buy a 74-year-old man a month's worth of groceries after his items were stolen while he was getting off a bus.

In a Facebook post Saturday, the Gainesville Police Department said Saleem Hasan had gotten off the bus and put his groceries on the ground when a woman walked past and grabbed them.

Hasan has difficulty with mobility and was not able to stop the woman from stealing the $85 worth of groceries that would have lasted him a month, the post said.

The officer who responded to the theft, identified only as Officer Franklin in the Facebook post, went to the Publix where Hasan had purchased the groceries and bought him all the same items.

Franklin then took them to Hasan's home.
