INMAN, S.C. — Authorities say a motorcyclist died after a deer ran in front of him on a road near Inman.
Coroner Rusty Clevenger identified the motorcyclist as 52-year-old Rodney Joe Frady of Boiling Springs, who died in the accident Sunday afternoon.
Troopers tell multiple media outlets that Frady was thrown from a 1995 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he struck the deer. They say he wasn't wearing a helmet.
He was taken by ambulance to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.
Department of Transportation officials are warning motorists to keep a close eye on the roads as we're now in peak time for animal-related crashes.
A recent state DOT study found more than 56,000 animal-related crashes between 2013 and 2015. Almost half of those happened between October and December.
Mecklenburg County was 7th on the list, with more than 1,300 animal-related crashes.
The DOT warns that more deer are on the roads now because it's mating season, and you're more likely to see them at dawn and dusk.
