GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A worker in Gaston County was lowered to the ground after a medical emergency at the old Choice Beverage building.
Channel 9′s Ken Lemon saw the whole rescue happen Friday morning.

The worker was rescued from the roof of the building, a height of about 20 to 25 feet. He was lowered by first responders who used a rope system to bring him down in a stretcher.
The man seemed to be OK, Lemon reported, and was taken away in an ambulance.
Gastonia Fire Department Battalion Chief Synthia Kearney spoke with Lemon about how her crew quickly jumped into action.
“So they give him the medical care he needs immediately, and then they bring him down so he can get further medical care,” Kearney said. “So in order to do that safely -- that’s why we have the special ops teams come and set up the ropes system -- so that they can quickly get him down so that he can get the medical care he needs going forward.”
It’s unclear if the heat Friday was a factor in the medical emergency. There were several other people on the roof with him at the time of the call, and they all stood in the shade as first responders worked.
