GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Gaston County woman said her husband attacked her and threatened to kill her in front of her children on Mother’s Day.
She told police that the attack happened after she said she would leave her husband.
“His eyes were bloodshot red,” the woman, who does not want to be identified, told Channel 9. “It was scary.”
She said her husband grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against the wall before grabbing a gas can.
“Here he comes with the gas tank. He pours gas on the floor, clothes and everything,” she said.
The woman told Channel 9 he then threatened to kill everyone in the home.
“And then he pulls out his lighter and says, ‘If I can't have you, no one can. I'm about to blow this (expletive) up,’” she said.
Police arrested the 26-year-old man on charges of assault on a female and communicating threats. Channel 9 is not identifying the husband to protect the woman’s identity.
“I'm scared if he gets out, I'm scared of what he's going to do because it's just a piece of paper,” the woman said.
The husband posted the $20,000 bond and has been released from jail.
