CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are looking for a Peeping Tom who reportedly targeted a woman in a Walmart in east Charlotte.
The incident happened just after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Walmart in the 9100 block of Albemarle Road.
According to the filed police report, a 20-year-old woman was in one of the bathrooms at the store when a man entered the bathroom and looked over the stall.
The woman was not hurt.
"You think you have privacy in the bathroom and someone follows you in and they're peeking over," said Kia Johnson, who often shops at the store. “It’s very scary, especially if you're in there by yourself and no one hears you."
“We as women have to just be careful,” said another shopper, Joyce Hicks.
Channel 9 reached out to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police to find out if surveillance cameras in other parts of the store may have captured the suspect. A spokesperson responded saying no arrests have been made in the case.
No description of the suspect was provided.
Channel 9 also reached out to Walmart. A corporate spokesperson released the following statement:
"We value the safety and security of our customers and associates at all times. We'll work closely with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department throughout their investigation and must refer any other questions to them.”
Although shocked by the reported crime, shoppers said they will remain frequent customers.
"I never would have thought it would happen at this one (Walmart),” said Lori Lammon, who often shops at the store.
“I'm glad everything is OK and I hope they catch him,” said Johnson.
