Witness helped identify suspects in deadly triple shooting at Hickory pub

HICKORY, N.C. — Ryan Mooneyham walked out of J. McCroskey's Irish Pub and Grill at about 2:15 a.m. Friday and saw a car circling the parking lot.

He said someone was hanging out one of the windows holding a semi-automatic rifle. He identified the man as Greydon Hansen.

Shots were fired into a car, killing three people.

The next thing Mooneyham remembers was Hansen jumping out the window of the car and talking to a group in the other vehicle.

"(He) was saying vulgar words like, ‘Who's talking (expletive)? Who's talking (expletive)?' And the driver (of the) car hopped out, had his hand in his pocket and pulled out a handgun," Mooneyham said.

The driver, Dontray Cumberlander, leaned into the second vehicle and began shooting everyone inside, Mooneyham said.

Witnesses said Hansen also fired at the car with what appeared to be a rifle.

Kenyada Sledge has been dating Cumberlander for years and has a son with him. She said Hansen is married to her sister and the two men are like brothers.

"Sunday at church, Wednesday night at Bible study," Sledge said. “He's always, ‘Yes, ma’am, no, ma'am.’ (He's) never disrespecting his elders."

A witness later identified the men as the shooters after they were pulled over for speeding in Long View, according to the search warrant.

They admitted to being at the bar and that there were weapons in the car, authorities said.

Police said they found a Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22 rifle and a semi-automatic pistol with an empty 12-round magazine.

Mooneyham was still shaken by what happened and has a message for the families of those killed.

"I'm sorry I couldn't do more,” Mooneyham said. “And prayers are going up every day."

Kenyada Sledge said she met with Cumberlander in jail.  She says he told her repeatedly he was not involved in the shooting.
