WAXHAW, N.C. — A captain with the Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad died suddenly Monday morning.

Capt. Ronald McGarvey suffered a fatal medical emergency at about 8:10 a.m. while he was going home after his shift.

A Union County Sheriff’s deputy and members of the Waxhaw Fire Department tried to revive McGarvey, but they were unsuccessful.
McGarvey’s death is considered to be in the line of duty.
