Urban League offers free vocational skills training

CHARLOTTE — The Urban League of Central Carolinas is offering women free vocational skills training.

Registration is open for the four-week course in Environmental Protection Agency 608 certification if you already work in property management, HVAC, and maintenance or are learning something new.

Instructors said the course can open doors to more opportunities with better pay.

“A certification is the foundation, the basis,” said Tinzelow Baldwin, with the Urban League of Central Carolinas. “You cannot handle refrigerant or Freon or work in the industry without it. One of the things we wanted to do here is for property managers or people who may already be working in the field is to get them excited to open up the door to more women that they can do it.”

Participants must live in Mecklenburg County and have a high school diploma.

The free classes will be held on Saturdays starting next month at the Urban League in uptown Charlotte.
