CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two men were trapped inside a submerged SUV Tuesday night on North Tryon Street near east 16th Street after heavy rains battered the area.
The pair managed to climb out of the stranded SUV in the flooded street, and firefighters brought them to safety.
North Tryon Street remained shut down to traffic for hours.
The water was about four feet high at its highest point, officials said.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Mecklenburg County until 9:15 p.m.
