CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A busy road in southeast Charlotte was blocked for hours Monday morning after a crash damaged a utility pole and brought down power lines.
The wreck happened just after 2 a.m. on East WT Harris Boulevard near Independence Boulevard and Denon Hills Drive.
Police said the driver of the vehicle veered off the road, flipped several times before striking a utility pole and bringing down power lines.
The driver was not hurt.
Investigators told Channel 9 they are investigating if wet weather played a role in the wreck.
Both northbound lanes and one southbound lane were blocked as crews worked to repair the damaged pole and lines.
Officials said the power lines have to be repaired before they can pull up the car from the embankment.
Duke Energy crews said about 300 customers in the area were without power and that they hoped to have it fully restored by 6 a.m.
The road was expected to be closed throughout the morning though.
