DREXEL, N.C. — A Silver Alert for a missing 52-year-old Drexel man has been canceled after he was found dead, according to officials.
The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons canceled the alert for James Nelson Abernathy Friday morning at the request of Drexel police.
Abernathy was last seen at a residence on Reed Street in Morganton on Oct. 13.
Authorities said Abernathy was believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment and may have been in need of medication.
Channel 9 is asking officials if they suspect foul play in Abernathy’s death.
