CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was riding in his patrol car when he heard shots being fired Monday morning in west Charlotte, authorities said.
Police said it appears that people in two vehicles were shooting at each other on Beatties Ford Road and Dr. Webber Avenue.
The officer was not injured and it does not appear he was targeted.
A short time later, a man with a gunshot wound to the leg showed up at Carolinas Medical Center. Police said that the shooting victim was a part of the shootout.
The shooting victim is expected to recover.
Police have not made any arrests in the case.
Detectives were called in to interview witnesses and victims to determine a motive and suspect description.
