Shark bites 18-year-old at Atlantic Beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. — A shark bit a teenager while he was swimming Saturday afternoon at Atlantic Beach, fire officials said.

A small shark bit the 18-year-old man on the hand around 3 p.m., Channel 9's news partners WCTI reported.

The attack happened just west of Atlantic Beach Circle.

Emergency crews took the teen to Carteret General Hospital.

Atlantic Beach Fire Chief Adam Snyder said he will most likely need stitches but he is expected to recover.
