South Carolina leads nation with highest nursing home mortality rate, study shows

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina had the highest death rate per 100 nursing home residents in September, according to an AARP study.

The AARP said that people are failing the elderly when it comes to fighting COVID-19.

The group did a nationwide study of nursing homes, and South Carolina did not do well. The state actually led the nation in mortality.

“I got to tell you, 41% of deaths of COVID nursing home residents, that is frightening," said Nikki Hutchinson with AARP in South Carolina.
