Sawmills Elementary sees big turnout for National Bike and Walk to School Day

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — More than 175 children, parents, and community members participated in National Bike and Walk to School Day on Wednesday in Caldwell County.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, along with the health department, provided nearly two dozen helmets to children biking to Sawmills Elementary School.

Principal Courtney Wright said the event promotes healthy living and teaches the importance of safety to children while riding their bikes.

Kristy Campbell, mother to one of the students, said it was great to see so much enthusiasm about the event.

“It’s so great to see everybody supporting the school and riding their bikes,” Campbell said. “The kids are so excited.”
