Body found off Myrtle Beach is missing Rock Hill man

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The body of a Rock Hill man that was missing after he was last seen near the 29th Avenue South area of Myrtle Beach was found Friday morning, authorities said.

Police were investigating a missing swimmer who had not been seen since Tuesday night at the same location.

On Friday morning, officials with the Myrtle Beach State Park said crews found a body in the ocean and confirmed it is James Ross II, from Rock Hill, his parents said.

Witnesses said they heard a man screaming for help about 100 yards out in the ocean behind the resort Crown Reef.

A set of keys and a cellphone that belong to Ross, 33, were found on a towel on the beach, authorities said.

Investigators spoke to Ross’ mother, who said he was at the beach on a day trip from Rock Hill.

The mother told police her son is mentally unstable but has never tried to hurt himself or anyone else.

Officials are expected to perform an autopsy soon.
