CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Emergency crews are waiting until the sun rises to remove a car that crashed into a pond at a shopping center in University City overnight.
The car plunged into the pond behind a Hilton hotel on JM Keynes, right off WT Harris Boulevard, shortly after midnight.
As storms pounded the area, a diver was in the water securing the car to a dock. Police said nobody was found inside the vehicle.

It was too dark to remove the car overnight, so crews are waiting for daylight.
Some witnesses told Channel 9 they saw two people in the car, though others said there was only one person. They saw the car driving just before it crashed into the pond.
"The way he was driving, he was just basically cut in and went straight in," said Juan Pablo Vajay.
