GASTONIA, N.C. — Police said they are investigating after a woman was shot and killed at a motel Friday morning in Gastonia.
Officers were called to the Red Carpet Inn on Broadcast Street just after 11:15 a.m.
A man, who asked not to be identified, said he heard the gunfire and saw a man run from the scene and get into a silver hatchback with a woman and another man inside.
"It's absolutely horrible," he said.
An hour after the shooting, Channel 9 saw family member of Cheeontah Howard show up at the motel.
"(She had a) good heart," her uncle Milton Howard said. "Always thoughtful. Caring. It is very unfortunate it happened to her."
Channel 9 has learned the shooting was outside one of the rooms. Police said the 28-year-old was a guest at the motel. Family members have more questions than answers in the case.
"She's a people person," Carole Reed, victim's mother, said. "Beautiful. (She'd) help anybody who need help. I want to know why they killed her."
Police said an arrest has not been made in the case.
