STATESVILLE, N.C. — A man got out of his car with a butcher knife on Tuesday and stabbed a woman in her SUV near a restaurant drive-thru, police said.
The attack was reported at McDonald’s on Signal Drive in Statesville.
The person accused in the stabbing got into a hit-and-run afterward, officials said.
He was stopped on Interstate 40 in Davie County.
Police took him back to Statesville, where the suspect told reporter Dave Faherty, "I love the lady."
A witness said the woman was badly injured in the attack.
"She was in really bad shape, really bad shape,” Kristen Lynaugh said. “It was like a movie scene."
Lynaugh and her fiancé were leaving the restaurant when they saw the commotion outside and tried to help the woman who had been stabbed.
"I just (saw) a Crown (Victoria) take off that way like 90 mph and I was like, what the heck, so I turned and looked and someone said somebody has been stabbed," witness Anthony McDaniels said.
The woman was taken to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
