CONCORD, N.C. — A 61-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday night as he was trying to cross a road in Concord.
Officials with the Concord Police Department said they were investigating the crash around 6:30 p.m. on N.C. Highway 49 near Central Heights Drive.

Police said Roger Eric Mergendahl was attempting to cross Highway 49 at an intersection when a driver traveling northbound hit him.
Witnesses told police that the driver had a green light.
Mergendahl died at the scene from his injuries, officials said.
Highway 49 northbound was down to one lane near the scene of the crash, police said, but all lanes later reopened.
Officials said neither speed nor impairment are believed to have been factors in the crash and that no charges are expected.
