CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said a massive camper crashed through a fence Friday morning and slid down an embankment, coming to rest just feet from people sleeping in their beds at the Colonial Grand Apartments near Mallard Creek Church Road in north Charlotte.
According to officials, mechanical issues on the RV caused the accident around 12:30 a.m. Officers said the driver was not hurt.

Or crews on the scene saw the tire marks on the grass from the camper, which was leaning up against bushes near the building.
“I saw his brake lights and everything, and he kind of disappeared and we heard a bunch of banging and that's when I called 911, walked over here and saw it down that drop-off,” said one woman who witnessed the crash. “I feel bad for people that live there. Laying down in their rooms and stuff. I mean it was inches from people's bedroom windows that had to be really scary.”
Crews had to use a crane to lift and remove the RV.
Channel 9 is asking police if the driver will be charged.
